East Kent Masonic Golf Association’s Premier Event Held at Historic Kings Hill

The East Kent Masonic Golf Association’s flagship individual competition, the Geoffrey Gordon Dearing Bowl, took place on Thursday 24th July at Kings Hill Golf Club — a course with a fascinating history as a former World War II airfield. The trophy, named in honour of a much-respected former Provincial Grand Master, remains the highlight of the association’s golfing calendar, drawing brethren from across the province for a day of friendly competition and camaraderie.

A Worthy Champion

Congratulations go to WBro Leon Zacharow of Royal Engineers Lodge, who claimed the Bowl with an impressive score of 39 points. It was a fine display of consistent golf that saw off strong competition from across the field.

Runner-up honours went to Paul Routley of Maeides Stana Lodge 7868, who carded 38 points to take second place — a single point separating him from the top spot.

Third place was claimed by Steve James, who finished on 37 points, edging out two other players also on 37 after a closely fought countback decided the final podium position.

Nearest the Pin and Longest Drive

As always, the day’s individual hole competitions added extra interest and no shortage of pride for the winners:

  • Nigel Mann — Nearest the Pin, 6th Hole
  • Dave Woodward — Nearest the Pin, 8th Hole
  • Rob Spinks — Nearest the Pin, 11th Hole
  • Clive Carter — Nearest the Pin, 17th Hole
  • Derek Reed — Longest Drive, 12th Hole

A Fitting Venue

Kings Hill Golf Club provided a memorable backdrop for this year’s competition. Built on the site of a former airfield, the course offers wide, open fairways with a unique character that made for an enjoyable and testing ground for all who took part.

The East Kent Masonic Golf Association would like to thank Kings Hill Golf Club for their hospitality, and to all the brethren who took part in making the Geoffrey Gordon Dearing Bowl 2026 another memorable occasion in the association’s calendar.

The Vice captain Julian Friel collected £151.45 in total fines from the members
