EKMGA Chairman wins victory on home soil.

The winner receiving his trophy

September saw the 7th and penultimate event of the year, for the East Kent Masonic Golf Association. (EKMGA)

With Tenterden Golf club providing the location for this rearranged tournament due to the late withdrawal from the Essex Provincial Team, our Captain, Leon Zacharow, re badged the day as the “Captains Day”. With all proceeds being donated to this years Captains Charity, the Gillingham Street Angels.

Our chairman, Keith Hodgeson having secured fine weather conditions for what would be his “home” game, joined the other 21 Members and guests as they took to the fairways for the day at Tenterden.

Tenterden is a “Parkland Course”, which proves a tricky test for even the most seasoned player. The course has many tight fairways bordered by matures trees and several dykes and other water hazards.

Local Knowledge however proved essential with our own Keith Hodgeson (Weald of Kent lodge) scoring 37 points to win the day. Second place was a keenly fought contest with Paul Ames (Erasmus Wilson Lodge) beating Dave Berwick (United services lodge) on countback.

Fourth was Peter Bulmer (Romney Hythe Lodge) who put in a plucky effort with 33 points.

Nearest the pins were won by Nigel Mann, (1st & 16th), Paul Ames, (4th), Keith Hodgeson (7th) and with all 21 players failing to hit the 18th Green, the captain was left red faced when he read out a “joke name” during the prize giving ceremony. Longest drive went to Paul Mcguirk.
