East Kent Masonic Golf Association · Match Report

The East Kent Masonic Golf Association (EKMGA) travelled in fine spirits to the picturesque Croham Hurst Golf Club in Surrey for a keenly anticipated away fixture against the Surrey Masonic Sports Association — and returned home with a resounding victory to celebrate.

Played on Thursday 26th June during what can only be described as a sweltering heatwave, the contest pitted six players from each association against one another under the Stableford points format, with the outcome determined by the combined total of points accumulated across the entire team. With temperatures soaring, it proved to be a day that tested stamina and resolve every bit as much as golfing ability — yet East Kent rose magnificently to the challenge.

A Dominant Team Performance

When the final scores were tallied, the East Kent team had amassed an impressive 172 Stableford points, comfortably outpacing their Surrey counterparts who finished on 139 points — a winning margin of 33 points that left no doubt as to who deserved the honours on the day.

It was a collective effort of which the whole association can be proud, with every member of the East Kent six contributing meaningfully to what proved to be a thoroughly convincing result — no mean feat in such fierce and unrelenting heat.

Individual Honours Also head to East Kent

Not content with claiming the team prize, East Kent also swept the individual honours. Captain Paul Ames turned in a superb round to take the top spot with an excellent 35 Stableford points, a score that reflected both his skill and his composure on what is a challenging and characterful parkland course — and all the more admirable given the demanding conditions underfoot.

Close behind in second place was fellow East Kent man Derek Reed, who posted a very creditable 33 points — a fine effort that ensured the top two positions on the leaderboard were firmly held by the visiting side.

A Memorable Day at Croham Hurst

Croham Hurst Golf Club, nestled in the Surrey Hills and renowned for its testing layout, provided a wonderful backdrop for the fixture — even if the blazing June sun added an extra dimension of difficulty for all involved. The course demanded precision and course management throughout, making the East Kent team’s performance all the more commendable.

The day was enjoyed in the finest Masonic tradition — competitive on the course, convivial off it — with excellent hospitality extended by the Surrey Masonic Sports Association, for which the East Kent contingent was most grateful.
