SUPPORTING THEIR LOCAL COMMUNITY

Article by Roger Waltham

In its endeavours to be a supportive and helpful part of its community, Swale Chapter Rose Croix made a recent decision to get behind a very worthy local cause, the Meadowfield School, based in Swale Chapter’s hometown of Sittingbourne.

Meadowfield is a special school for children and young adults with profound, severe, and complex medical and learning needs, which resounds very closely indeed with the members of the Chapter, as many of them are Sittingbourne based and have children and grandchildren of their own in the area, or personally know people, including relatives, who are themselves similarly challenged.

Some of the members of Swale Chapter were delighted to be invited along to the school’s Christmas Market and Winter Wonderland afternoon during the lead-up to Christmas, where they were given a guided tour of parts of the school, including its incredibly relaxing sensory garden, and got to meet some of the pupils with their parents and carers. During the tour, they were also privileged to chat to some of the absolutely amazing team who dedicate their lives to the giving of such wonderful guidance to those very special young people and help prepare them for adulthood and their future lives. What a team!

Swale Chapter’s representatives were the Chapter’s Recorder, Treasurer, and Director of Ceremonies, namely Derek Conway, Alan Shardlow, and David Horne respectively, who were accompanied by our Inspector General, Roger Waltham, who is himself a member of the Chapter. All were delighted to experience the tour and to meet the School Principal, Angela Howe, and her team. Most especially they warmly embraced that opportunity to present a £500 donation to the Friends of Meadowfield School (registered charity No. 285436) which was very gratefully received on behalf of the charity by Katherine Alderdice and Ian Harman.

Swale Chapter Rose Croix looks forward to a continued and long-term support of this remarkable school and its amazing work.
