Masonic Fishing Charity Event – Horsham Lakes, Upchurch

The new season of Masonic Fishing Charity began at Horsham Lakes, Upchurch.  Weather was a little overcast with the threat of showers it but didn’t dampen the spirits of the Anglers.  We all tucked in to the usual, and very welcome, bacon rolls, tea and coffee, then set up for the Students, who arrived slightly earlier than expected!  Nevertheless, everyone was ready so we all paired up with our charges.

From the start, everyone was catching fish, with small silver fish and bigger Carp, around 2-3lb, putting up a good scrap for the lucky ones.  There were lots of squeals of excitement to be heard around the lake with Students letting their fellow Anglers know how well they were doing! Their sounds were interspersed with Woodpeckers, Cuckoos, Wood Pigeons and from the smallest bird the loudest song of a Wren!!

Lunchtime break came and we were well fed with Burgers and Sausages, then having the chance for  Students and the Anglers to compare notes.  Following a second successful session, we were called for the exciting climax to the day, the presentation of Angling Ability Certificates and Medals.

We were fortunate to have two APGM’s in Trevor Carter and Peter Rhodes who, after a few words of thanks and encouragement, proceeded with the presentation.  There followed a ‘note of thanks’ to everyone who took part by a representative from the School, accompanied by applause and cheers.

Another successful day!
