Daren Horne Wins at Bearsted.

THE PENULTIMATE ROUND FOR EAST KENT GOLFERS

Winner Julian Friel receives the Trophy from Geoffrey Dearing.

September saw the penultimate fixture of the East Kent Masonic Golfing season and the venue was the picturesque Bearsted Golf Club which is home to this year’s Vice Captain WBro Roy Butler. It also saw apologies from the current captain who was detailed on other masonic business.

Despite the predicted showers for the day, the sun broke through just before 10am and was welcomed by the waiting field.

In the smallest field of the year, Vice-Captain Roy (after a few failed attempts and some foolproof instructions!) randomly drew the cards to select the groupings and 15 Players took to the first tee.   Clearly it was a case of quality over quantity as the first group teed off to the awaiting par 3 green.

The battle was fierce with Derek Reed, from the first group, who is also a member of Bearsted Golf club and so is very familiar with its twist and turns, sat as clubhouse leader with 37 points.

However, his usual playing partner Daren Horne, set in the last group came home with a victorious 38 points and pipped Derek to second place.
