On a crisp September morning, the camaraderie and indomitable spirit of the Freemasonry community shone brightly as seven dedicated Brethren from Fraternitas Lodge No. 6046 embarked on a thrilling adventure.
On Sunday, 24th September 2023, they participated in the London South East Tough Mudder event, held at the picturesque Holmbrush Estate near Crawley. It was a day filled with challenging obstacles, teamwork, and a testament to the unbreakable bonds formed through the Brotherhood.
What makes their achievement even more remarkable is that they raised over £3000.00 for Step and Learn, a local charity, in the process.
The Tough Mudder Experience
For those unfamiliar with Tough Mudder, it’s not your typical fun run. It’s a gruelling, obstacle-laden course designed to test participants’ physical strength, endurance, and mental fortitude. The event is renowned for its challenging obstacles, and this year’s London South East edition was no exception.
The Fraternitas Lodge Team
The seven brethren representing Fraternitas Lodge No. 6046 were:
Bro. Ken Quarrington
Bro. Wayne Bourne
Bro. Terry Love
Bro. Michael Elkan
Bro. James Batchelor
Bro. Aiden Hicks
Bro. Brad Sowter
Their commitment to Freemasonry’s values of unity and mutual support mirrored their dedication to completing the Tough Mudder course.
The Challenging Course
The Holmbrush Estate provided a stunning backdrop for the event, with rolling hills and picturesque lakes. However, it was the obstacles that took center stage. The course featured a range of challenges, including the Arctic Enema, Electroshock Therapy, and the infamous Block Ness Monster – a rotating, log-filled water obstacle that tested not only physical strength but also teamwork and coordination.
Through mud, water, and electrifying shocks, our brave brethren faced each obstacle with determination and brotherly encouragement. They exemplified the spirit of Freemasonry, working together to overcome each challenge.
The Brotherhood in Action
One of the most heartwarming aspects of the Tough Mudder event was the sense of brotherhood that permeated every step of the course. As they waded through icy water and conquered daunting obstacles, the seven brethren of Fraternitas Lodge displayed the true essence of Freemasonry – unity, support, and unwavering friendship.
Bro. Ken Quarrington, Lodge DC, commented, “Participating in Tough Mudder as a team was a remarkable experience. It strengthened our bonds as Brethren and reminded us of the importance of supporting one another, both within our Lodge and in all aspects of life.”
The Triumph and Charitable Contribution
After hours of mud, sweat, and determination, the seven Brethren of Fraternitas Lodge No. 6046 crossed the finish line triumphantly, united in their accomplishment. The sense of pride and achievement was palpable, not only for completing the gruelling course but for doing it together as a team.
Moreover, their efforts did not end with the finish line. The event raised over £3000.00 for Step & Learn, a local charity dedicated to assist the physical and educational improvements of children with Cerebral Palsy and associated motor difficulties. This generous contribution showcased the philanthropic nature of Freemasonry and demonstrated the Brethren’s commitment to making a positive impact beyond their Lodge.
Conclusion
The London South East Tough Mudder 2023 was more than just a physical challenge for the seven Brethren of Fraternitas Lodge No. 6046. It was a testament to the enduring bonds of Freemasonry and the power of unity, support, and brotherhood.
As they stood together, covered in mud and smiles, they proved that Freemasonry isn’t just about ritual and tradition – it’s a way of life, a network of support, and a source of strength that extends beyond the Lodge room.
The spirit of the Brotherhood was alive and well on that September day in Holmbrush Estate, near Crawley, leaving a lasting positive impact on the local community through their charitable donation.
Step and Learn
A Charity Driven By Passion
Step and Learn is a charity dedicated to assist the physical and educational improvements of children with Cerebral Palsy and associated motor difficulties. Our aim, like Andras Peto the Hungarian founder of Conductive Education, is to view the child holistically, educating and motivating the child through play to become active participants throughout their daily lives.
Step and Learn provides the building blocks to children who have to learn how to control their body, a skill that is second nature to a child with no neurological impairments. We teach them to sit, stand, feed themselves etc. Tasks that will make them depend less on others when they are older as they equipped with the tools that enable them to be more independent.
