Honor Oak Lodge help local Charity
Honor Oak Lodge certainly didn’t lose their chips!
Following on from a very successful ladies’ night, where they raised more than £1,500 for Ronald McDonald House, Honor Oak’s Phil Radley and his family were invited to a special event in London.
The event was to celebrate the refurbishment of the Ronald McDonald House in Camberwell. The South London house, located just a stone’s throw from King’s College Hospital, celebrated the completion of its refurbishment on Saturday 22 April with an afternoon tea party.
Phil and his family attended along with their friends, Allan and Janine Whitehead and their son Rueben. They had spent a considerable time at the Camberwell house when Rueben was at King’s College Hospital after being born premature at just 25 weeks.
The group got a guided tour of the house, which has 24 bedrooms, all of which have been redecorated, new flooring installed and new plumbing fittings fitted. Headboards and bedside shelving have been built in along with USB sockets for device charging and a new TV system has been installed throughout. New beds are now in all bedrooms and a staff room has been created so that colleagues have a dedicated area to relax away from their working areas.
They also got to see the playroom and the new Tree of Life, which will grow as more families benefit from the accommodation provided. After the tour, they got to enjoy many cakes and meet other families as well as the Mayor of Southwark.
Giving Back
Before leaving, Phil presented a cheque for £1,545.00 to the House Manager, Marie Claire on behalf of Honor Oak Lodge.
Phil said, “Having a child in hospital is unimaginable for families, especially if that hospital is miles away from home. Ronald McDonald Houses ease some of the burden by providing free ‘home away from home’ accommodation, giving families a warm and comfortable place to rest, eat and relax, just moments away from their child’s hospital ward. This support is invaluable to families at a critical time in their lives, and I’m delighted to be able to help in some small way”.
