The East Kent Shooting Challenge 2021

East Kent Masonic Clay Shooting Club.

This year’s event was held later than usual but we were lucky that the weather was very kind to us, fairly warm and dry. Nine provinces, including ourselves, met at Dartford Clay shooting Ground for the 100 clay English Sporting challenge which we shot over 12 stands each one firing a number of clay discs simulating a wild game shot.  Our immediate neighbours West Kent, along with Essex, Middlesex, Surrey, Norfolk, Suffolk, Bedfordshire, and Buckinghamshire came forward and the day began with a Full English breakfast just to get the juices flowing.  Sixty-two clay shooters took part in the competition in which the Team trophy was won on this occasion by Essex with East Kent just 9 clays behind them.

The individual Highest score was achieved by Steve Ball of Durobrivae Lodge East Kent,

and the Ladies High Score was won by Lisa Brereton of Suffolk.

The presentation of trophies was made by our Chairman Bernie Connolly of the Brownrigg Lodge of Unity and these went to those mentioned above as well as Non-Masonic Team Winners Norfolk guests, Junior High Score to James Cross of Surrey, Guest Hugh Score Tim Lewis of Surrey, and Masonic High Score Runner Up Dave Purches of Essex.  Bernie Connolly thanked everyone for their wonderful support and told them that we had raised sufficient funds to purchase the Defibrillator which was the aim of the event, he wished everyone a very safe journey home and looked forward to when we could all be together once more.

The charity to receive the benefits of this particular event was to be Rochester Veterans Club located in Union Street, Rochester and we were able to purchase a Defibrillator which has been installed in their club building again by our High Gun winner, Steve Ball.  A formal presentation was arranged and the members of the Veterans Club met many members of the East Kent Clay Shooting Club where they were able to show their gratitude for the very kind gesture.
