Grand Opening of the new Stair Lift & Sensory Garden
In the summer of 2020, following the relocation of Nina Stephens from our Watford home, she, along with the business manager Fiona Hodges, approached the Association of Friends with a request for financial assistance. Their aim was to secure funds for the installation of a stair and wheelchair lift, which would facilitate direct access for residents to the outdoor sensory garden.
Given that the dementia wing is now situated on the first floor, this lift would provide seamless access from the Solarium to the roof garden in a single, straightforward move. This enhancement would not only improve the quality of life for the residents but also enable the home to achieve full accreditation as an Accredited Dementia Home Provider.
The Association of Friends responded positively to this request and committed to providing every possible assistance. The extensive process of fundraising commenced, and through dedicated efforts, a total of £22,500 was successfully raised. This amount covered the cost of the lift installation, as well as the sensory equipment, planting, and furniture. The Association of Friends contributed a significant portion of these funds from their own separate fundraising initiatives.
The breakdown of the funds raised is as follows:
- Association of Friends
- The M C F
- The Cornwallis East Kent Freemasons Charity
- Several local Lodges from East and West Kent
- Mark Benevolent Fund (West Kent)
- Some legacies from families
- A current resident also contributed
This collaborative effort highlights the community’s commitment to enhancing the living conditions of the residents and achieving the esteemed accreditation.
