After a twenty-year career in HM Customs & Excise, Ian went into the I.T. trade, initially in Application Design for Central and Local Government and then as a Geographical Information Systems Analyst. Ian has owned a Data Recovery company and an IT Consultancy business.

Ian was a founder member of ‘Around’. A charitable organisation supporting orphans and under-privileged children in the Thanet area. Now disbanded due to the closure of orphanages in the Thanet area. He was appointed Justice of the Peace in the County of Kent in 1992, specialising in the Youth Court since 1995. He chairs both Adult and Youth Courts in East Kent. He has also served as Chair of the Board of Governors of a Thanet school for ten years.

Ian has a property in Malta where the White family spend as much time as possible when the children are off school and Masonic responsibilities permit. He is a lifelong keep fit enthusiast, practiced a variety of Martial Arts disciplines from the age of 11 and ran a Judo School for under-privileged children during his late teens/early twenties. He became an amateur Body Builder from the age of 21 to 32 and then took up long distance running at the age of 35 but, a couple of years ago, he had to accept that the mileage has caught up. He is still a very keen cyclist.

Ian loves music and although a classically trained pianist, he prefers the guitar and now plays the electric guitar and is an amateur luthier of electric guitars. A hobby he enjoys with his teenage son.
