Masonic Fishing Charity Event – Cottington Lakes, Nr Deal.
Cottington Lakes, Nr, Deal was our recent event and we were all proudly wearing our new Masonic Fishing Charity Polos, very kindly donated by Tim Ivory of Ashford Lodge.
This time, there were a total of 17 students plus their Carers and they were all happily paired off, one to one, with an Angler to guide them through the fine art of Angling. We were fortunate to have another sunny day and everyone set off in keen anticipation.
Some lovely fish were caught at this pretty venue and, in particular, Julian Friel somehow fluked a beautiful native and rare Crucian Carp of around 1½ lb for his Angling partner and ‘whoops’ could be heard all around the Lake of other successful catches. The Students also enjoyed the abundance of wildlife, with Coots, Ducks, Moorhens and Geese all squabbling amongst themselves, sound familiar ?!
When lunch arrived, it was for many a relief to be out of the Sun for while! As always, everyone enjoyed the much needed refreshments then darted back behind the rods for the afternoon session, then at around 2:30pm, we were called for the presentation and Chairman, David Alexander, said a few kind words then handed over to APGM, Duncan Rouse, to make the presentations of Medals and Certificates for ‘Angling Ability’. A representative of the School then thanked the Charity, which was very well received by all of the Anglers and Helpers.
