Martello Lodge celebrate their senior members.

As time marches on, one thing we can all be certain of, we get older. But one thing that never changes, is the memories, the impact that members of our lodge have had on it over time. All too often, it is too late to let these stately Brethren know how much we appreciate all the work that they have done, and continue to do. So Martello Lodge decided to mark the hard work and impact they have made over the years, by doing something a little different.

 Time for Tea

So, in recognition of these members, but it is not only the lodge member, as they saying goes, behind every successful man is a woman. So a big debt of thanks must also go to the wives and partners of these Brethren.

Members of the Lodge decided to do a few things as a way of thanks. Afternoon tea was laid on, and it was well attended by members of the Lodge along with the honoured Brethren.

 But that’s not all!

Members of Martello Lodge, discussed how they could celebrate these distinguished Brethren and also help the community, so it was decided that, a sum of £750 would be allocated to each Brother, who along with their wife could donate the monies to a local charity of their choice.

A Fantastic Total Donated

The total donated for the three charities, Mersham Sports Club, Pilgrims Hospice and Demelza House, was an incredible £3750

£750.00 to the Mersham Sports Club who offer opportunities to young and old, boys, girls , including those with disabilities in such activities including Football, Cricket, Archery and many other sports.

£1500.00 to the Pilgrims Hospice at Ashford which helps people facing a terminal diagnosis, and their families, to live well in every moment. Thanks to our support, and the help of countless others, today the Pilgrims Hospice has 200 Pilgrims nurses and therapists. Together they support thousands of people in east Kent each year.

£1500.00 to Demelza House who provide expert clinical and emotional support to Children and their families to help them live the best life they can. With almost 90,00 children and young people who are living with a condition that means they are likely to die young the Lodge wanted to show our support.

A fantastic story I hope you will all agree, does your Lodge or Chapter have a similar story? Just send a few photos, and a small write up letting us know who is involved, who took part, what it was for and what was done, and we will do the rest.
