The 42 families at West Malling’s Junior parkrun were thrilled to receive a cheque for £500 from Malling Abbey Lodge at West Malling and The Cornwallis East Kent Freemasons Charity on their 4th birthday last Sunday 13th October.

Manor Park junior parkrun is held every Sunday at 9am come rain or shine. An average of 50 children run and 15 volunteers support the 2k long run every week through this beautiful country park. It is completely free to take part and the event often has celebratory events for birthdays and guest takeovers, where local running clubs and other sports, volunteer and offer extra activities.

The cheque was generously gifted to help the parkrun pay for a gazebo, walkie talkies and other equipment needed to make the event even safer and more enjoyable for its runners and volunteers.

Event Director Laura Taylor said “We have built such a wonderful parkrun family over the last 4 years. It is thanks to this incredible community spirit that we have been able to host 199 parkruns and almost 1300 different children have been able to take part so far. We are so grateful for this donation from the Freemasons – it has already enabled us to buy essential kit to make our parkrun even better!”

Regular volunteer Charlotte Elliot from Aylesford said “ We have been coming to Manor Park junior parkrun for more than 3 years now, we were enthusiastically welcomed and made to feel part of it immediately. I ended up volunteering that very first week and haven’t stopped! Since then my children have now run over 130 runs, they both regularly volunteer along with me, my husband and even my mum! This has also led to the whole family running the “big” 5k parkrun too.
