“Kent Police Charity Shoot 2024”

Kent Police host a charity clay pigeon shoot in July each year and the Provincial team have been supporting these shoots since we were founded in 2008. Police forces from all over the country attend on a regular basis and this year was no exception, teams from as far away as South Yorkshire and Devon and Cornwall attended along with many non-police teams such as ourselves. The venue was West Kent Shooting School at Paddock Wood which is one of the most beautiful grounds in Great Britain, superbly landscaped and looked after, a pleasure to visit. This year was a very large attendance with 160 guns competing for the trophies on offer and we also had one of our largest teams in attendance with nine shooters taking part.

The format is that the top five scores from each team are added together to create each teams score and our top five were Tom Davies, Rob Styles, Martin Lane, Paul Barber and Martin Heddle achieving a credible sixth place out of nineteen non-police teams. The ground in Paddock Wood offered us an excellent venue in very hot weather and the shoot was followed up with an very welcome Bar-B-Q followed by very cold drinks as we waited for the results to be announced.

The Provincial team continue to go from strength to strength with both freemasons and non-masons making up the squad, this also aids to promote the fraternity to the clay shooting public. We have encouraged shooters to join freemasonry through our attendance at these events and hopefully this will continue. Should any brethren be interested in the sport or seek to learn more about the team please contact the Secretary, Roger Wilkes on  eastkentclays@gmail.com.

We have suffered a minor computer incident recently would all members please send in an email to our secretary’s address, eastkentclays@gmail.com. to ensure future communications.
