Horsham Lakes

A Fine Catch girl holding fish

A bright morning welcomed the first Masonic Fishing Charity event since September 2019, on this occasion at Horsham Fishery in Upchurch.

The Anglers and Team arrived after some road delays but keen and fueled by bacon rolls, tea & coffee, were ready for the off.

There was a buzz of anticipation with everyone busying themselves with various tasks to receive the students.

The event was well supported by Chairman David Alexander and Past Chairman Peter Brooshooft.

The students arrived around 10am full of excitement. Briefings to Anglers and our charges were given and everyone was ready to get going. Anglers and Students names were called and we were “off”. Pretty soon, squeals of joy could be heard all around the lake, some from the Students too!!

Time flew and it only seemed a moment since we had started , before we were called for a lunch of Burgers and Hot Dogs, with the Students comparing notes of their catches in between bites of their lunch. The usual “fisherman’s tales” were in full flow – “it was this big” .. “ I lost a record size fish”.

After lunch, we were all back behind the rods for part 2. Again more excitement could be heard echoing all over the lakes but it felt that no sooner had we started than we were called for the expectant finale…. which was a presentation of Certificates for “Angling Ability” and Medals.

Duncan Rouse, APGM assisted by Gerry Stupple made the presentations with some encouraging words from our distinguished visitor.

Sadly, the day drew to a close and the Students thrilled with the day’s events. It was also rewarding for MFC team to receive many thanks from the Carers and Teachers, who told us just how much all the Students look forward to the event every year.

The equipment was cleared away and everyone said their goodbyes, but all looking forward to the next event at Monk Lakes, Staplehurst on Thursday 9th June.

We are always looking for more Anglers, so would love you to join us. All tackle is supplied (but you can bring your own if you want).
