The event itself is rather simple – to enjoy a night out with friends and family with an excellent rock covers band called Rerun (I’ve seen them twice before and can attest they really are very good).
However, the real purpose of the evening is to make the brethren aware of a very worthy charity doing great work, right here on our doorstep. One Big Family are based at Meeting House Lane in Chatham. They operate a soup kitchen in the High Street and supply more than 100 hot meals to the needy every Sunday evening. They also deliver food parcels and home starter packs to struggling families three times a week, as well as offering supported accommodation for people making the transition from rough sleeping back into society.
This event will be a great opportunity for freemasons to meet the organisers and volunteers from OBF in a social setting and learn more about what they do, and perhaps, how your lodge may be able to help or support them. Some individuals may even want to volunteer. I’ve included a link to their website for your interest.
Establishing a link between freemasons and a charity doing such important and visible work in our community is exactly what the third pillar project is all about.
