East Kent Provincial Clay Pigeon Shooting Club

Province of East Kent v Province of Essex

Sunday 14th April 2019

Sunday 14th. April 2019 saw twenty two hardy souls arrive at Dartford Clay Shooting Club for the annual shoot between East Kent and Essex. This competition is held twice every year, April in Kent and August in Essex and East Kent were out to rectify their loss last year to our visitors.  As is compulsory and because Dartford’s clubhouse has a wonderful kitchen the morning began with breakfast closely followed by the respective teams being divided into mixed squads and so the competition began.  The competition, in fact most competitions in clay shooting, consist of 100 clays shot at from 10 different stands and these represent the types of target that would be found if a person was game shooting and as may be expected the targets can be quite difficult coming from many different angles and at various speeds.

The shoot offered us all a couple of hours great enjoyment and several hilarious moments as both squads, East Kent and Essex have known each other for several years, this however does not detract from the fact that we both want to win and on this occasion I am very pleased to announce that East Kent triumphed as the winners by 20 clays. The High Gun for East Kent was shared between Chris Ray of the Lodge of Friendship & Service No.6584 on 78 which was equalled by Gary Cordier of the Royal Kent Lodge of Antiquity No.20 also on 78.  The High Gun for Essex was Dave Wilder on 75 closely followed by Mark Lambkin on 70.  We now look forward to our return match in August at Essex’s shooting ground.
