Our Provincial Senior Warden for 2024/2025 had multiple duties to fill during his masonic year which included being captain of the East Kent Masonic Golf association

A very active and long-standing member of the association, Chris Metherell (Malling Centenary Lodge 8068) was nominated to be captain at March AGM and started his year in style at the captains drive in At Dale Hill.

During Captain Chris’s tenure as Captain of East Masonic Golf Club, the association continued its long-standing tradition of supporting charitable causes, making a significant contribution to the Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen and Families Association (SSAFA). Through a fine system at each event, the association’s members generosity culminated in a donation of £754.86 The fine was applied to each attendee of the events and was applied for certain misdemeanours on the golf course at the carious events during the year.   These included lost balls, finding too many bunkers and three putt’s on any green.

SSAFA, a UK-based charity that provides support to serving and former members of the armed forces and their families, benefits from donations that fund vital programs, including assistance with housing, financial support, and mental health care. Chris Metherell, known for his leadership and dedication to the club’s values, chose SAFFA as the charity to focus on during his time as Captain. The associations members and guests, known for their camaraderie and generosity, came together to show their support for the armed forces, helping to provide much-needed assistance to those who have served the country.

Metherell, reflecting on the donation, expressed his pride in the club’s efforts. “It has been a true honour to serve as Captain of East Masonic Golf Club, and I am thrilled that our fundraising efforts have been so successful in supporting SSAFA’s important work. The generosity shown by our members has been overwhelming, and it’s humbling to know that we’ve made a difference in the lives of those who have given so much for our country.”

The funds will go towards supporting the charity’s wide range of services. SSAFA’s initiatives include financial grants for veterans in need, support for families of deceased soldiers, and outreach programs that ensure no service member or their family is left behind. The donation is expected to make a meaningful impact on these programs, providing tangible assistance to those in need.

The donation also highlights the strong sense of community within East Masonic Golf Club, where members regularly come together not only for sport but to support important causes. This charity contribution is a testament to the club’s commitment to making a positive impact on both a local and national level.

Looking ahead to the 2025 Season, Captain Chris is delighted to be handing over to W.Bro Roy Butler of Maeides Stanna Lodge at Westerham Golf Club on the Thursday 24th April.  Roy will nominate his own charity for the year but will be a great success.
