On Tuesday, January 21st 2020, the Head of Freemasonry for East Kent, Neil Johnstone together with Roger Odd have been invited to be some of the first to hear the new Great Organ being played at Canterbury Cathedral.
Dr David Flood, Organist and Master of Choristers, and Mr Andrew Scott, Head Voicer from Harrison & Harrison organ builders, will host the event. David will explain his brilliant vision for the instrument. Andrew, a former cathedral chorister and accomplished organist, with 25 years of experience building and voicing organs (including those at the Royal Festival Hall, Exeter Cathedral and King’s College, Cambridge) will explain how an organ is built, what voicing an organ entails and show some of the magnificent pipes at close range. David and Andrew will play some of the pipes to give an idea of quite how splendid our new Great Organ is going to sound when completed.
It promises to be a fascinating talk and there will be other opportunities to hear the Organ. In the new year,we look forward to inviting our very kind supporters to a series of celebratory, summer concerts at Canterbury where you will be able to hear the Organ’s beautiful voice – made possible because of you.
Previously as reported in our article earlier in the year, Samantha Royle said…
“All at Canterbury are enormously grateful to the East Kent Freemasons for your outstanding support of this transformative project. Thank you so very much.”
