Wednesday 4th December 2019 at the Masonic Centre, Franklin Road, Gillingham, saw the presentation of a certificate to WBro Ronald Hopper celebrating 50 years in Freemasonry. The certificate was presented by WBro Mark Bassant, Assistant Provincial Grand Master.
This presentation was part of a white table meeting and after the Lodge was opened and its general business swiftly taken care of, the Ladies and Gentlemen guests of the Lodge made their way into the temple. Also present was Ron’s son Eifron, who accompanied him. 85 Brethren and guests were then delighted to hear WBro Mark Bassant give a pleasant and entertaining résumé of WBro Ron’s Masonic career.
Ron was Initiated into the Norman Lodge No.3502 in December 1969. He was Installed as Worshipful Master in 1982 and later made a Provincial Grand Steward. Following this he was, in 2001 promoted to PPrJGW. Ron achieved the Grand Rank of PGStB in both the Craft and Holy Royal Arch. He also achieved the rank of 32° in the Ancient and Accepted Rite (Rose Croix). Ron was a stalwart of the Norman Lodge in all of that time never missing a Lodge meeting or an L of I until ill health took its toll over the last couple of years.
Ron was Director of Ceremonies of the Lodge for a number of years, giving help and encouragement to numerous Brethren. He proposed or seconded many Brethren into the Lodge and helped many attain the Chair of Worshipful Master including myself and I know I can speak for all the members of the Lodge when I say how much we all appreciate everything he has done for us individually and also for the Lodge and Masonry in general.
