Minnis Bay Lodge no. 8496 charity walk

In aid of Louie’s Helping Hands

On January 26th, Minnis Bay Lodge no 8496 held a 26 mile charity walk for Louie’s Helping Hands. There were thirteen walkers who attempted the full distance and others joined in to just do a part of it. The event was organised by John Matthews who was 74 on the day and he also took part and completed the whole circuit. Many of the walkers had been training since September with some finishing in a mere seven hours!

The charity is building a special needs school within Quex Park in Birchington. The project is coming on very well and because of the bad weather the final presentation of sponsor monies was carried out inside the building on Sunday 3rd March. The picture shows John presenting the cheques on behalf of Minnis Bay Lodge to Phill Llewellyn, the father of Louie who the charity is named after. Phill also completed the walk.

Just before the walk a Turkish Nite was held in support of the same charity and the combined efforts have so far yielded £5253.71 with additional late payments still trickling in. The final total will be announced in due course.

This fantastic contribution adds to that of the £3000 Porta Maris Lodge and the match funding by the Cornwallis East Kent Freemasons Charity. See here for their story.
