10 Scouts Brave the Cold of Antarctica
Celebrating 100 years

ReQuest2021 is a programme of activity centred around an expedition to Antarctica to commemorate the Shackleton-Rowett Expedition of 1921-1922. 100 years after Sir Ernest Shackleton’s ship Quest sailed to Antarctica a ten strong team of Scouts and leaders created the original ethos of the expedition by undertaking their own voyage to the frozen south.

The ten participants undertook research projects whilst in Antarctica on issues such as climate change, energy, exploration, education, health and the environment. Findings were presented last Saturday covering a range of engaging formats including photography, soundscapes, reports, artwork and interactive forums. The 10 participants also presented the outcome of their research as well.

The Province of East Kent together with West Kent, proudly sponsored the scouts to enable the trip to happen and special thanks were given at the presentation. We even got a special mention in Antarctica itself  – please see the following link.  https://youtu.be/btEyd9WJ8uw

The presentation evening was very inspiring to see young people achieving their ambitions and goals especially knowing that Freemasons helped to make their dreams come true. During the evening, participants also enjoyed talking to the Honourable Alexandra Shackleton, the granddaughter of Sir Earnest Shackleton who herself has been to the Antarctic no less than 5 times.
