Snar Gate Lodge No 6770 in Dover celebrated a very unusual initiation ceremony. Mr Callum Warriner, who is a Dover Town Councillor, was initiated into the lodge on his 21st birthday.
More than the usual festivities surrounded the night with the arrival of Assistant Provincial Grand Master, David Graeme, and his escorting officers, who witnessed Brother Callum welcomed into Freemasonry and celebrate his 21st birthday.
The lodge was holding a past master’s night, Mike Goodwin, Callum’s seconder, took the chair as master to conduct the ceremony.
The toast to Callum was given by his proposer, John Ward, who said: “He was pleased that Callum had decided to become a Freemason and that he had chosen Snar Gate to be his lodge, I feel sure you will make many new friends.”
But no 21st birthday would be complete without a cake and that traditional song, so a birthday cake, complete with 21 burning candles was presented to him by the lodge, whilst the members and guests sang Happy Birthday.
Callum was delighted, both with the cake and with the best wishes of the brethren, he said “I have already met some new friends here tonight, what a great birthday present”
David Graeme, congratulated Callum and wished him a happy birthday, he said, “I don’t recall anyone joining Freemasonry on their 21st birthday, it should be a birthday for him to remember and I am sure he will, what a wonderful night for us all, to have such a pleasant young man become a member of the East Kent Freemasons.”
