It has been the custom for many years in Sheerness’s Queenborough Lodge for the Master to organise an informal summer event. It is one way in which the Master can thank his Officers, their ladies and partners for their support during his year in office.
It is usually held at a local pub or restaurant but the current Master, Ian Addis, and his wife Gabrielle, decided to hold a BBQ at their home in Minster-on-Sea. They saw it as an opportunity to help a charity very close to their hearts - Cancer Research UK.
The BBQ was held on Saturday 23rd June 2017 with fifty-four people in attendance! Not only were all members of the lodge invited, but also the Masters of other lodges from Sheerness, Sittingbourne and beyond. Ian was busy under the hot sun cooking at the BBQ and Gabrielle was busy indoors preparing other food. Everyone else however sat talking, drinking and eating whilst listening to music provided by lodge member Fraser Gregory. The focal point of the ‘bar’ was a cask of real ale, provided by lodge member and local publican Chris Collier. Gabrielle worked extremely hard preparing much of the wonderful food, and her desserts were especially appreciated by all present.
Later in the afternoon, Connor Rochester - son of lodge member Chris Rochester, appeared with his guitar. He had performed earlier at the Playa Beer Festival, and sang a few songs to the enjoyment of everyone present.
The afternoon was thoroughly enjoyable and, thanks to the generous donations made by their guests, Ian and Gabrielle raised £770 for Cancer Research UK.
To both Ian and Gabrielle, Queenborough Lodge says “Thank you and well done - your hard work was really appreciated by everyone present.”
“We are so very pleased that you have been able to make a such a wonderful donation to Cancer Research UK.”
