Excellent Companion Philip Neil South
Born in Chatham in 1955 where he has lived most of his life.
Married to Jean and has three sons, seven grandchildren, one great grandchild and a black lab.
An old boy of Chatham Technical School, now Chatham Grammar, Philip is proud to be an old Holcombian.
Trained as an Electrical Engineer before specialising in Commercial Refrigeration. Became the Managing Director of a National Mechanical Engineering Company in 1988 a position still held as well as serving as a Director on the Boards of four other Companies.
Is keen on all sports but with a particular interest in cricket and football and when time permits will be found at Canterbury supporting Kent in the summer or at Prestfield Stadium supporting Gillingham.
Initiated into the Northfleet Lodge No 4149 in 1993 becoming Master in 2002. Served as Secretary for seven years between 2005 and 2012.
Became a joining member of the St George Abadan Lodge No 6058 in 1996 taking the Master’s chair for two years in 2015 and 2016.
Also a Joining Member of East Kent Scriveners Lodge No 9622 in 2006, Kent Provincial Grand Stewards’ Lodge No 5866 in 2009 and a Founder of the Spirit of Rugby Lodge No 9922 in 2016.
Was appointed to the rank of Provincial Grand Steward in 2009, promoted to Provincial Junior Grand Warden in 2012 and appointed Provincial Grand Secretary in 2017.
Appointed to the Grand Rank of Past Assistant Director of Ceremonies in 2015.
Exalted into the Chapter of Sympathy No 483 in 2004 becoming 1st Principal in 2010. Became a Joining Member of East Kent Stewards’ Chapter No 5866 in 2014.
Appointed Provincial Grand Steward in the Holy Royal Arch in 2014 and Provincial Grand Scribe E in 2017.
Is a member of three other orders, Mark, Rose Croix and Knights Templar.
Has held various significant Masonic posts having been appointed Provincial Project Manager responsible for all open days between 2009 and 2011. Appointed to the Communications Board in 2012 becoming responsible for all Public Events including the commissioning and running of the Provincial Mobile Display Units. Promoted to Chairman of the Provincial Communications Board in 2013 and Chairman of Group One in 2016.
