Excellent Companion Derry John Clements PGStB

Derry ClementsPersonal

Derry and Alice have been married since 1985. They have two sons and three grandchildren. The older son is a tree surgeon and the younger works in the North Sea oilfields.

Derry is a keen football fan; a Manchester United supporter. In his youth he played for Crystal Palace and Edgware Town. He successfully completed an Outward Bound course under the Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme at Ullswater in the Lake District, being attached to the mountain rescue team.

Derry left school at fifteen and joined the stockbrokers Walter Walker and Co of the London Stock Exchange. Two years later he joined the London Evening News in Fleet Street. At the age of twenty one he signed on with the Metropolitan Police Public Carriage Office and successfully completed the Knowledge of London course. He has been a licensed London black taxi driver since 1969; Alice says that he should write a book on the famous people he has met and talked to!

One day, when time permits, Derry would like to play more golf and take up the game of chess.
