Last weekend Old Ruymian Lodge 8391 had an unusual fund raiser.

Steve Hayes with two of his “helpers”, Roger Odd and Barry Kingsman, Worshipful Master of Old Ruymian

Charity Steward Steve Hayes explains:

“In Broadstairs the Homebase store has closed and the site taken over by Bunnings DIY.   As part of their  Australian Parent Company’s culture they provide facilities for local charities and good causes. Primarily it takes the form of offering a barbecue slot on a weekend to any Charity or good cause. This is called a Sausage Sizzle.”

Former AGPM Roger Odd holds the sauce…!

Despite taking place early February 2018, the day was a great success with lodge members enjoying the day, making conversation with the general public and, for some, renewing acquaintances. Old Ruymians were able to make a total profit of £233 with £50 in unused food donated to Salvation Army for relief for the homeless and £183 to Thanet Riding for the Disabled.

“It was a very positive fund raiser with good communication and publicity.”

Founded in October 1971 as a Lodge for past pupils and Masters of Chatham House School, in Ramsgate.   More information on The Old Ruymians Lodge 8391 can be found here.
