Outgoing PGM Geoffrey Dearing and the new PGM Neil Johnstone

The Province of East Kent’s next Provincial Grand Master will be WBro. Neil Hamilton Johnstone AsstProvGM, a member and Past Master of Renham Lodge No 8211 in Sittingbourne. He will succeed outgoing Provincial Grand Master Geoffrey Gordon Dearing who has been promoted to the post of President of the Board of General Purposes in the United Grand Lodge of England.  One of the most senior posts in English Freemasonry.

Neil, a retired Police Officer, lives with his wife Margaret, in Rainham, Kent. They have two children and five grand-children. Born in Barnehurst, Neil was educated at Dartford Grammar School.

Initiated in 1981, he was Master of Renham Lodge in 1992 and 1993.  He was appointed to Provincial Grand Rank in 1995 as  a Provincial Grand Steward, and promoted to Provincial Senior Grand Warden in 1999. Following 4 years as Provincial Deputy Grand Director of Ceremonies he was promoted to Provincial Grand Director of Ceremonies in 2014, a post he held for 3 years. He was appointed to Grand Rank in 2007 and was invested as an Assistant Provincial Grand Master in 2017.

Commenting on his impending promotion Neil said “I was surprised, honoured and delighted to be asked to serve as the Province’s next Provincial Grand Master. I look forward to continuing the great work that Geoffrey has undertaken over the last seven years, and to meeting many more of my Brethren in East Kent”.
