Freemasons from Broadstairs’ Kingsgate Lodge recently held their annual BBQ for members, families and friends. Sizzling ‘Bangers’ and ‘Burgers’ accompanied by joints of chicken and slices of homemade pizza were just a few of the culinary delights on offer.
The venue this year was particularly special being held at the ‘Garden Gate Project’ in the grounds of Northdown House, Cliftonville. The Garden Gate Project is a local charity which uses a community garden to support adults with learning disabilities and/or mental health needs. It has been supported by the Kingsgate Lodge for several years.
The project is designed on an open space garden nursery and allows users to cultivate their own produce of both flowers and vegetables, selling them on to subsidise the charity.
The project has grown over recent years and now includes a café where on-site food is prepared and sold.
Kingsgate members have pledged to supply and fit solar panels for the cafeteria, all sourced by the lodge members.
The Garden Gate Project is highlighted as one of the Tercentenary projects within the Thanet region of East Kent (Area 8). With the support of other lodges in the region, an enclosure will be built to house the electric batteries used with the solar panels. Other functions will be held locally to help with this fund-raising.
