Members of Ardea Lodge present their gifts to the staff

Matthew Jury is currently Master of Ardea Lodge No 6717 in Herne Bay. When his son was just 12 months old suffering from pneumonia, he spent some time in the Rainbow Children’s Ward in the Queen Elizabeth The Queen Mother hospital in Margate receiving treatment for the illness.

Following on from this Matthew kept in touch with Victoria Herd who deals with fundraising events for the ward and was therefore aware of the various items on the ward’s wish list.

At his Ladies Festival weekend in April Matthew’s wife’s chosen charity was split between the Rainbow Ward and the Wildwood Charity in Herne.

It was therefore with much pleasure that members of Ardea Lodge No 6717 travelled to the hospital to present the Rainbow Ward with an HD TV, two satellite boxes, two babies play gyms with sensors and lights and an electronic baby play area.

The gifts were received with grateful thanks by Victoria Herd along with other members of the ward staff who presented the lodge representatives with a beautiful hand-made thank-you card, designed and made by the children in the ward.

The lodge will shortly present Wildwood with a cheque for £400 to help fund the building of an enclosure for a rescued bear. In return, Wildwood will hang a wooden plaque displaying Ardea’s details on the enclosure along with the other sponsors involved.
