Military Jubilee Lodge Dover, invited other Dover lodges to join them at the Masonic Hall Dover, for their annual Widows Christmas Diner. Four lodges took up the invitation they were, Corinthian, Pharos, Snargate and Peace and Harmony.
Colin Smith and his wife April, went out and purchased the gifts for the various lodges widows, the almoners contacted and organised their members and widows, transport was arranged for those ladies who needed it, it was a real team effort in the best traditions of Freemasonry.
The Master of Military Jubilee, Stan Write, welcomed all the ladies on behalf of the various lodges and wished them all a Merry Christmas and a happy and Healthy New Year.
The ladies were treated to welcome drinks and 3 course Christmas dinner with wine, after they watched a short film about Dover in 1969.
The Big Surprise of the day was a visit by Santa (Colin Smith of Corinthian Lodge) who explained that he was getting rather old and need help, he introduced his assistant Elf (Eric Gee) they gave each of the lady’s chocolates, biscuits and a poinsettia.
Many the ladies who attended said, “It’s been a wonderful day, we have enjoyed the meal and the entertainment and look forward to next year”.
The day concluded with the almoners from the lodges leading them in carols.
Stan Write said, “It helps remind the widows that they are still very much part of the Masonic family”.
