The Clay shooting section had another very successful open day at Dartford Clay Shooting Ground on Saturday 8th October 2016 when 48 Freemasons, their families and friends attended to try their hands at clay shooting.
Shooting section members were there to aid and assist and all of those trying the sport were given score cards as a memento of their day’s shooting with some very good first time scores being achieved. The day began with a safety briefing by Bernie Connolly, one of the section’s Safety Officers. Then, in groups of five, they were led into the practice area and fitted with the necessary safety equipment, ear and eye protection, and offered a suitable shotgun. After a couple of practice shots they were then shown slightly more difficult targets and many scored very well.
There were no winners or losers on the day but from the remarks and questions received after the shoot it seems that the clay shooting section may have attracted five or six new members. New lady members were particularly welcomed as many Masonic shoots have sections for non-masons, ladies and juniors.
