The weather was dry but cold when the Provincial Clay Shooting club held their annual “Come and Try It “ day at Dartford clay shooting club on Saturday 27th October this year. Thirty one hardy souls were booked in to shoot however the weather must have put a few off but meeting in the comfortable club house where breakfasts were available along and copious quantities of tea and coffee could be consumed soon lifted the spirits. The shooting stand was undercover which is where the club always holds these events so that should there be cold or inclement weather shooting can still take place.
Those attending were taken over to the stands in groups of five and clutching their souvenir score cards they were coached in shooting five different targets loosing off 25 plus shots at incomers, going away clays and even clays running along the ground to simulate rabbits. Some very useful scores were recorded with one or two hitting 50-60% and as well as this those attending were also offered the opportunity to came back again and try some more realistic targets on Dartford’s competition range.
The day was a success even with several no-shows which, as we guess was due to the weather, our charity fund continues to grow and we hope to be able to report three significant donations in the very near future. Thank you to the chairman and members for giving up their time to run the day and thank you to the hardy souls that came along to Try Clay Shooting.
If anyone is interested in clay shooting you are very welcome to join the club, there are opportunities for brethren and their families to take part as many of the events we enter have categories for not only masonic shooters but also non masons, ladies and juniors.
