Royal Arch Companions enjoyed a thoroughly good evening in Gillingham on 8th March at a meeting of Brownrigg Chapter No 1424. It was special for two reasons – a visit by a senior member of the Provincial Executive and an enlightening presentation.

The chapter was honoured with a visit from the Third Provincial Grand Principal, Clive Manuel. Accompanying Clive was his Escorting Director of Ceremonies, Ron Pinney, together with a group of active Provincial Officers.

Also visiting were four members of the Provincial Demonstration Team to present “Royal Arch In Camera – Your Chapter in Focus”. The team: Malcolm Smith, Ian Smith, Chris Metherell and Mike Dunn entertained and informed everyone with their presentation.

Introducing the presentation, Malcolm Smith went to some lengths to explain its title. He said: “We all think of the word ‘camera’ as describing an apparatus for taking pictures. However, its other meaning is ‘a vaulted room’, and the expression ‘in camera’ is used to describe a meeting ‘in private’. So it is chosen as it explains something of the history and symbolism of the Royal Arch in the confines of a Chapter convocation”.

It was generally agreed that everyone present learned more about the Royal Arch in an entertaining presentation.

Commenting afterwards at the Festive Board, the Third Provincial Grand Principal, Clive Manuel, congratulated the demonstration team. He said: “The demonstration team have worked very hard to prepare and deliver this presentation which we have all enjoyed.” He went on to congratulate Jim Gillett, the Second Principal of Brownrigg Chapter, who will be appointed to Chapter Grand Rank in April. He also congratulated Len Humphreys, Wayne Smith and Jon Baker who will be promoted in or appointed to Provincial Grand Rank in May.
