13th Inter-Lodge Annual Fishing Competition
Seven teams representing Lodges from all over East Kent met at Chart Fishery on Sunday 20th September to enjoy a day’s fishing and compete against each other in friendly rivalry. A mixture of masonic and non-masonic participants took part with three people in each team.
This was the thirteenth of these annual events and Simon Cruse, a long-term supporter of the competition who kindly provided the shield and trophies, sadly died last year. Simon’s name has now been adopted on the shield that was presented to this year’s winning team.
The competition was decided by the weight of fish caught, with the results as follows:-
1st: 338 lb - Bredenstone Lodge No 8093
2nd: 334 lb - The Richard Watts lodge No 8534
3rd (joint): 166 lb - Balmoral Lodge No 7118 and Per Mare Per Terram Lodge No 3609
5th: 146 lb - The Graystone Lodge No 1915
6th: 143 lb - The Manor of Gillingham Lodge No 3983
7th: 141 lb - The Douglas Lodge No 1725
Steve Allen, the event organiser and a member of The Balmoral Lodge No 7118 in Gillingham, thanked all those that took part for their support and said: “Simon Cruse sadly lost his battle with Oesophageal Cancer and the monies raised on the day will be donated to a charity that helps to fight that illness”.
Monies raised in previous years have been donated to the East Kent branch of the Masonic Fishing Charity which provides a day’s fishing experience for disadvantaged young people.
