Trinity Lodge No 7021 in Margate enjoyed a special evening on 11th December 2015 when Jay Morgan was initiated into the lodge in which his father, grandfather and uncle are all members.
Jay’s father Warren is a Past Master of the lodge and currently serves as its Director of Ceremonies. It is a lodge tradition to invite Past Masters to conduct the December meeting and Warren was invited to occupy the Master’s chair so that he could conduct his son’s ceremony of initiation.
Jay’s paternal grandfather Bryan is also a Past Master of the lodge and he took part in the ceremony by delivering the Charge after initiation to his grandson.
Jay’s uncle, Paul Young, another Past Master of the lodge and currently its Chaplain, acted as Junior Deacon and accompanied his nephew during the ceremony.
Also present was Jay’s Godfather, Robert Gollick, together with a very close family friend, Vernon Barrett, who has known Jay since he was a youngster.
This special family occasion was shared by a lodge room packed with members, guests and visitors all keen to witness this rare event and the evening was enjoyed by everyone present.
Jay is 19 years old and is studying Film, Radio and Television at Canterbury Christchurch University. Normally the minimum age to become a Freemason is 21 but, as Jay is a university student, the lodge obtained special dispensation to initiate him. His enthusiasm for Freemasonry is such that, within three months of joining, he will take part in another initiation ceremony in February, when he will present the Working Tools, and explain their Masonic significance, to the next new member of the lodge.
