The Winner of the Essay competition this year presented his Essay about Gavels at a special meeting of the Hawkhust St Laurence Lodge No 9690 on Friday 13 November 2015, presided over by the lodge’s Master, Derek Goldsmith.

The essay was presented by the competition winner, Graham Marek a Past Master of the Minnis Bay Lodge No 8496, in the presence of Hawkhust St Laurence lodge members and two Distingished Visitors: Assistant Provincial Grand Master, Peter Rodd, and Past Deputy Provincial Grand Master, Roger Odd.

Roger introduced the presentation and then handed over to John Craig, a Past Master of Hawkhurst St Laurence Lodge and a member of the Essay Competition Organisers Group, who set out the rules of the Essay Competition.

Graham Marek then delivered his essay and concluded his talk by showing a number of gavels and hammers he had collected over the years.

Roger Odd asked that a Vote of Thanks be recorded for Graham’s excellent talk on his winning essay and Peter Rodd congratulated him on behalf of the Province of East Kent and presented him with a Book on Freemasonry as his prize.
